Deepwood Museum and Gardens Wedding

Deepwood Museum and Gardens Wedding / Salem, Oregon

Most of my blog posts include a write-up that describes the wedding venue and how the day unfolded. For Angela and Garrett, I’m doing something just a little different, and I hope that’s ok by them. The other night, after finishing up their edits, I jotted down a personal journal entry that was inspired by them.

They were married at Deepwood Museum and Gardens in Salem, Oregon on a perfect, fall day.

I get asked a lot what I love most about my job. Sure, the standard answer I give is completely honest— I love people, and I have a deep appreciation for the nuanced interactions between people. Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good story, and I ask a lot of questions because I LOVE HEARING STORIES. My job lets me put an image to those stories, and that’s pretty neat. To be honest though, there is a deep and fundamental reason as to why I love this job, and it is a bit selfish. It has to do with the way I see the world. My job has allowed me to cross paths with some of the kindest, most generous individuals. Truly stand-up people. The world can seem heavy at times, and it’s easy to focus on the bad— but I get to see so much of the good. What my couples may not understand is that they are continuously helping me write and tell my own story.. to let my views on humanity grow and evolve.. to ultimately shape a part of who I am at my core. They save me. It’s a bit of a selfish reason as to why I love my job, but it’s the truth. The world needs more Angelas and more Garretts, and they really struck a chord with me. On a very deep level, they are the good.

Thank you so so much, Angela and Garrett, for allowing me a peak into your relationship.
