Vista House Engagement Session

Vista House Gorge Engagement Session

Winter in the Columbia River Gorge has a way of making everything feel a little more dramatic, and nothing beats an early morning drive out Portland and through the Columbia River Gorge.

When I arrived at Vista House for Alina and Chris’ engagement session, thick mist clung to the hills as bitterly cold wind worked its way around the historic building.

Just as we started shooting, the sun rose above the horizon, casting long rays across the stone and river. The sun warmed us up a bit, and we soaked in the winter glow. Sunshine during the winter months in the Pacific Northwest feel a bit out of place because it’s so rare for the sun to make an appearance— we were very grateful to experience the cool, cloudy mist, and the sunrise. This morning couldn’t have been any more beautiful.

For anyone considering an engagement session at Vista House, timing makes all the difference. Mornings bring soft fog and an almost eerie stillness, while sunset can flood the sky with gold and pastel tones. Winter adds an extra layer of moodiness, perfect for couples who love a little atmosphere in their photos (and aren’t afraid of a bit of rain!). No matter the season, Vista House never disappoints—it’s one of those places that feels timeless, always offering something a little different each time you visit.
