Baker Building Wedding

Baker Building wedding in Portland, Oregon

In the days leading up to Candace and Jason’s wedding, winter storm warnings closed schools and delayed flights. Although snow hadn’t yet fallen from the thick, gray clouds, the city was on standby. The streets were quiet and folks were nestled in for January’s winter storm.

The Baker Building provided guests a cozy refuge from the anxious city, and Candace and Jason could be found in the highest spirits. It’s who they are. They keep a mindset that allows them to remain grounded and focused on each hug and smile and laugh and word (and bite of taco or pizza!). They pour their hearts into their loved ones. They care deeply. And that’s their focus, always.

This day was about more than a wedding ceremony— it was also about providing warmth to those that have supported Candace and Jason throughout their lives— to let their grandparents, cousins, best friends, parents, and siblings know how much they’ve impacted their lives and their relationship to one another.

Candace’s brother led the ceremony through teary eyes and thoughtful words, and his voice sang into a room as everyone breathed deeply and allowed themselves to savor every verse. The ceremony ended with the folding of their 1,000th handmade crane used to symbolize Candace and Jason’s commitment and patience with one another.

It was hard to pinpoint when the day turned to night, and the only real telltale sign was the passing of tequila and the dancing to reggaeton. This was the perfect ending to a culturally diverse experience, and although these souls came from all over the world, their smiles and words for the evening originated in the same place— in this cozy space in North Portland that housed an important moment for Candace and Jason’s journey together.
